Needle Felted Wool Workshops with Jaana Mattson
Time & Location
About the Event
1 - 5 PM Friday July 26
$125 +$25 Materials Fee
In this single session we will introduce the basic elements of needle felting, different types of wool and techniques for application using landscape photos for inspiration. A simple technique, needle felting is a dry method of creating non-woven fabric by interlocking wisps of dyed wool fiber using a barbed needle. The organic textures and impressionistic colors of blended wool offer a very painterly approach to textiles, especially suited to landscape imagery.
All levels are welcome in this class, anyone from a hobbyist with a short attention span to a professional artist can have fun and be impressed with themselves as we learn to "build" with the landscape from background and shadow to the highlights of the surface. All necessary materials are provided with the $25 material fee, due in class.
INTERMEDIATE PROJECT: MOON SHADOWS
noon - 4 PM Sunday July 28
$125 + $25 Materials Fee
Prerequisite: Needle felting experience with Jaana Mattson including Introductory Session or a 2-Day Intensive Intro Workshop (or contact instructor to inquire).
In this single session we will work on a moody, moonlit forest scene together. With all the right colors in your roving kit we will build the scene from sky to forest floor using surprising layers of color to create an atmospheric effect.
Anyone who has participated in any Intro Workshops with Jaana Mattson is welcome in this class. We will work the composition step-by-step and complete the piece during class. You only need the basic understanding of tools and materials to work along with the group, and take whatever tips, tricks and insights you can use from this tutorial.
