Located on the vibrant near east side of Madison, Threshold is an innovative center that brings together businesses and the community. The 4,300 square foot building is a uniquely restored and re-envisioned 100 year old auto body shop, with beautiful architectural details throughout including exposed brick walls, high-arched wooden ceilings and elements dating back to its original use. Threshold consists of a beautiful multi-tenant workplace for diverse businesses and retailers that share a focus on creativity, collaboration and well-being. It offers a variety of events and workshops that are open to the public. Threshold is a fully accessible building.
Threshold also features rental spaces for the public; the community room (HUB), the EMBODY Workshop, a service kitchen and Open Circle Studio.
Hours of Operation
Weekdays: Events can be held from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and the building is available starting at 7:30 a.m. Building must be vacated by 10:00 p.m. in respect for our neighbors.
Weekends: Events can be held from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and the building is available starting at 8:00 a.m. Building must be vacated by 11:00 p.m. unless special arrangements have been made.
How to Reserve an Event or Meeting at Threshold
Please fill out our Reservation Request Form, answering all questions. Once it is submitted, a staff member will shortly be in touch with you to confirm payment and other details.
Each room is equipped with tables, chairs and has wireless access. Extension cords and power strips are available. We also have easels, white boards, battery operated candles and table cloths for rent. All needs should be requested when reserving your room and require approval. Audio/Visual equipment is not available at this time.
Threshold offers street parking only. Parking is available along Atwood Avenue, however, parking is not available from 7:00-8:30 a.m. on the north side of the street and again from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on the south side of the street, adjacent to building. Parking is not allowed along the side of building or in the lot behind the building, however, temporary loading/unloading is permitted by the back gate of Threshold.
Catering and Alcoholic Beverages
Threshold users are allowed to bring in prepared food. The Service Kitchen can be used to store, warm or chill prepared food. Alternately, facility users can hire one of Threshold’s approved caterers including Bunkey’s Ca-tering, Willy Street Co-Op, Elizabeth Crawford Catering, Dobhan, La Donia Cafe and Slide Food Cart & Catering. All food provided by outside caterers should have place-cards identifying the name of the catering company at all food serving tables.
Threshold does not hold a liquor license. Alcohol may be provided and served by a caterer with a liquor license. Event hosts may be required to supply their own liquor license.
Potluck events are allowed at Threshold. It is the facility user’s responsibility to adhere to food safe-ty standards. Help ensure that the food at your potluck is safe by following the safety guidelines listed at www.publichealthmdc.com. Threshold is not liable for food-borne illnesses contracted at potluck events. NOTE: If your food event is open to the general community or advertised, a Temporary Restaurant permit is required (unless you are using a licensed caterer on site). Please contact the Public Health Department for Madison and Dane County if you have food safety or permit requirement questions at 608-243-0330. Download a Temporary Food Establishment Permit Application at www.publichealthmdc.com. If your event is ended by Health Inspector officials, you will not receive a refund of room use fees.
Service Kitchen Use
The HUB has direct access to the Service Kitchen. The Service Kitchen is optional when reserving other rooms at the center and is required when serving food at an event. The Service Kitchen is adequate for storing, warming, chilling and serving prepared foods. You must bring in all of your own utensils, pots and pans, linens, place set-tings, silverware, glassware and beverage containers. Any time your reservation requires you to bring food and beverages, you must reserve the Service Kitchen. Use of Service Kitchen does not include utensils, cookware, dishware, flatware or water pitchers. Note: Threshold kitchen wares cannot be used without permission of the management unless special arrangements have been made. Use without permission can result in loss of Security/Damage Deposit.
Threshold does not have a coffee maker available for use. Threshold does not supply disposable cups, plates, serving ware or napkins. Refrigerator/freezer space is limited. Overnight storage of food is only allowed with permission. Counter tops are sensitive and need to be protected if using hot plates, slow cookers or serving hot food.
After Event Clean-up:
Groups using the Service Kitchen must clean all surfaces and appliances, sweep the floor and wipe up any food spills from the floor. Make sure all appliances are turned off, including vent fan/light. Trash & recycling should be removed to the dumpster (located outside the garden, to the left and after going through gate) after your event. Extra trash bags and cleaning supplies are available under the sink in the Service Kitchen. Alternately, you can opt to pay $80 extra for a cleaning service.
